The Indian Concrete Institute (ICI), Bengaluru centre jointly with Bangalore Institute of Technology (BIT) held a Technical Evening Lecture on April 28th, 2023 from 6.30 pm to 8 pm. The topic of the lecture was “Climate Change & How Civil Engineers can Reduce Carbon Footprints”. The lecture was delivered by Er Vijay Kulkarni, Founder-Director of Low Carbon Construct Forum.
The speaker spoke briefly on the climate change phenomenon and its adverse effects. He also highlighted the vulnerability of the country to hydro-met disasters with examples. Stating that the buildings and construction sectors are responsible for nearly 40% of carbon emissions, he suggested various ways in which civil and structural engineers can render great help in reducing the carbon footprints.
The lecture was followed by brief question and answer session. The function was attended by a large section of students from BIT. Er. H R Girish, Chairman and Er Suhas R, Secretary of ICI Bengaluru centre spoke during the event. Also present during the function were Dr Ramchandra, President-Elect ICI and Er Ravishankar, Vice-President-South ICI during the lecture.
